Quality news, where you want it, when you want it.
Helena-West Helena residents Chuck Davis and Andrew Bagley have teamed up to save The World. That’s the Helena World. Last week, Davis and Bagley announced that they had purchased the 148-year-old publication from Gatehouse Media, which has its corporate office in New York.
Davis is a retired businessman with a wide array of experience in both the public and private sector. His experience includes a military career, work in the aviation industry, export-import interests, and a stint at the Small Business Administration. In recent years, he has been part of a growing number of investors in the downtown business district, owning two buildings. Davis renovated one of those buildings to include his residence in a 2nd-floor apartment.
Bagley, who is a veteran Instructor of Political Science and History at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas and a native of Phillips County, brings media experience to the ownership group, having previously worked as the Associate Editor of the now defunct Phillips County Progress with the late D. L. Bailey and as a freelance writer for multiple publications, including the Helena World and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Bagley has also done some radio work and is currently a sports announcer at KFFA-AM. At The Progress, Bagley was a part of winning two awards from the Arkansas Press Association.
The publication will be switching to a weekly print edition. A website to supplement the printed coverage will launch soon and will feature breaking news, additional photos, and other items to be announced at a later date.
